With the complete platform redesign underway, I overhauled the outdated rewards system—a key business feature tied to customer purchases and loyalty. I redesigned the rewards setup to reduce confusion and technical friction, and introduced coupons as a new business tool for running promotions and customer incentives—all within a scalable, business-focused system.

Problem
Why the Existing System Was Holding Businesses Back
Why the Existing System Was Holding Businesses Back
The outdated rewards setup and lack of a coupon system directly impacted business success:
Businesses found the rewards setup and copy used confusing and inconsistent
Coupons - a feature which was requested by most businesses to run promotions was not existing before.
Lack of guidance caused friction
The previous onboarding was creating barriers to business success and limiting platform growth. I needed to build a business onboarding flow that solved trust, identity, and usability issues . Since the older app is depreciated, this wasn’t a redesign—it was a complete rebuild.

These gaps led to incomplete setups, operational frustration and limited ability for businesses to attract and retain customers through targeted incentives.

We had no historical analytics for coupon creation, and existing rewards data highlighted friction points. I collaborated with stakeholders, audited similar platforms, and made key assumptions to guide the redesign:

Driving Business Growth Through Flexible Incentives
My approach focused on improving how businesses attract and retain customers by offering more flexible, accessible incentive tools. Rewards and coupons address different business needs but work together to support overall growth.
In response to business feedback, I introduced multiple discount types through the coupon system, giving businesses more control over how they promote offers, drive purchases, and increase customer loyalty.
The key connection: a fully completed stamp card converts into a coupon, which businesses can offer as part of their promotions. Beyond that, rewards and coupons have distinct creation and management flows, but intentionally follow similar patterns to reduce the learning curve and operational friction.

Once onboarding is complete, the business profile reflects the information provided during setup. I included public-facing page that customers will see — and business facing page which can be edited.

In a fast-paced startup, I learned that speed doesn’t have to mean sloppy design. A key challenge was keeping rewards and coupon flows consistent while meeting complex business and technical needs.
The rewards setup flow balances this well—it mirrors how businesses think about loyalty programs while staying simple and scalable. Close collaboration with engineers and defining assumptions early helped us move fast without compromising quality.
I tackled this by:
Creating reusable components for consistency
Working closely with engineering to balance feasibility and UX
Maintaining familiar patterns while adding new functionality

We did not have analytics or usage data to guide decisions.
Changing priorities every week
Designing while dev work happened in parallel.
I had to create the design system while designing features in real time—balancing consistency, speed, and reuse without slowing down delivery
Since there was no dedicated QA team to test for bugs, errors, or weird user behaviors before launch, I had to design edge-case coverage into the UI itself.
