[About me]

Hi 👋 I’m Ramya — a Product & UX/UI Designer based in Wisconsin, focused on designing accessible, scalable products that solve real-world problems.

With a background in engineering and business, I bring a systems-thinking approach to product design—balancing technical constraints, user needs, and business goals. I began my design journey working with nonprofits through the Taproot Foundation, where I partnered with mission-driven teams to improve accessibility and engagement. That experience led to an opportunity at Nombolo.

Pro bono design work through Taproot Foundation

At Nombolo, I became the sole designer leading a complete rebuild of the platform after legacy constraints blocked further scale. I designed and shipped 10+ core features across consumer and business experiences, helping transform the product into a scalable B2B2C ecosystem aligned with long-term growth.

Hello again!👋

I'm Ramya, a self-taught UX/UI designer and eldest daughter with problem-solving in my DNA 🧬. My design journey has built resilience and perseverance, while working in a startup environment and raising my girls 👧👧 has taught me patience and adaptability.

These qualities din't just make me a better parent—but they made me a stronger, more empathetic designer. When not designing, I'm with family, cooking, painting, or enjoying a hot brew of South Indian Coffee. ☕🎨

From Intern to Solo Designer: My Growth Journey 🚀

I started as one of seven interns at a startup. By the end of the internship, only two of us were offered full-time roles. When my colleague eventually left, I became the sole UX designer responsible for rebuilding our entire product from scratch.

When you're the only designer, collaboration isn't optional—it's key. I've built strong relationships with our dev team and marketing folks, and honestly, ChatGPT and Claude have become brainstorming partners too—helping me think through problems, create documentation, and catch edge cases I might have missed

Design Journey🎢

Though I have backgrounds in engineering and business administration, design always captured my imagination. I started working with nonprofits through Taproot Foundation as UX designer and Web Designer and then moved to Nombolo as an UX intern—which led to the journey you read about above.

The journey has been a roller coaster of challenges and pure excitement. Despite the ups and downs, I've fallen in love with the impact thoughtful design can have on business and people's everyday experiences.

European Adventures
🇸🇪 🇫🇮 🇪🇪 🇮🇹

Last year, I took some time away from screens and traveled across Europe. I explored through cities of Sweden, Estonia and Rome.

Here are a few snapshots from my moments along the way.

Product Designer, Nombolo Inc

I led the complete rebuild of Nombolo’s platform as the sole designer and project lead after legacy technical constraints limited further growth. Leveraging insights from the previous product, I designed and shipped a dual-sided B2B2C platform with 10+ core features across merchant tools and consumer experiences, supporting growth to 3,000+ users and 10+ businesses.

UX Designer, Taproot Foundation

Taproot Foundation connects nonprofits and social change organizations with skilled volunteers for pro bono work. I did website redesign projects for several nonprofits, focusing on improving donation pathways and user engagement through user-centered design. Below are some key initiatives I've contributed to:
